Join the Mayor’s Office on Women’s Policy & Initiatives and the D.C. Commission for Women at this first-ever summit addressing health and wellness of women and girls in the District.

At this summit, residents, advocates, community leaders, public officials and other women's health stakeholders will explore key issues impacting the lives of women and girls in the District from obesity, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, to diabetes including racial and ethnic disparities, prenatal care, and the needs of elder women.

This year’s theme is “Healing Ourselves, Healing Our Communities” with a powerful line up of speakers (partial list): Frances Ashe-Goins, RN, MPH of the HHS Office on Women's Health; Tonya Lewis Lee, Esq., spokesperson for the Healthy Babies Begins With You Campaign; Dr. Tilli Williams of Natural Rhythms; Ms. Ivy Hylton, MSW of Serenity Healing Arts; Becky Lee, Esq. of Becky Lee’s Fund; Tiffany West, MSPH of DC Department of Health’s HIV/AIDS Administration; Dr. Sandra Schlicker of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education; Melissa Hook of the Mayor’s Office on Victim Services; Mildred Muhammad of After the Trauma; Tesia Love, MA of FRESHFARM Markets; Reta Jo Lewis, Esq. of the D.C. Commission for Women and many more.

The Summit promises to be healing, powerful and action-oriented and include expert panel session, resource tables, working lunch sessions, inspiring speakers and movie screening with a healing circle for women that evening. Topics covered: HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, diabetes, and obesity. A final report will be developed from the Summit proceedings.

Treasure Hunt for Kids..$5 a person/26April 2009 The current treasure hunts is geared toward elementary students.

This particular hunt will be held at the Air and Space Museum.

This hunt is expected to be fun and educational. In order to solve the clue, the children will be involved in creating replicas, building paper airplanes, and more. Parents must remain with their children at all times.

Some of the clues will have secret codes attached to them, to help decipher the final message to the treasure. The children will be given a pouch,pen,a bandanna, and an envelop with educational clues in them. Each clue will lead the children closer to the treasure. The first group to decipher the message, and find the treasure wins a special prize(Toys R us gift certificate from $100+). Second group to win gets a semi-special prize. The rest of the children will get other prizes.

Less than a minute after taking off from La Guardia Airport on January 15, 2009, US Airways flight 1549 collided with a flock of birds. The engines went dead and the pilot made an emergency landing on the Hudson River, saving everyone on board. The remains of the birds were sent to the CSI of the bird world - the National Museum of Natural History's Feather Identification Lab. This small exhibition case explains how museum scientists worked with transportation safety experts in this modern aviation mystery.

This exhibition explores modes of visual narration through the museums' exceptional collection of works that illustrate tales surrounding the demon Shuten Doji. Presented together for the first time are two sets of handscrolls, a pair of screens, sketches for a set of fan paintings by Kawanabe Kyosai (1831-1889) and book illustrations by renowned Japanese painter Hokusai (1760-1849) and other artists.
