Aurora Opera is pleased to announce that the 2010-2011 Family Opera will be Beautybeast by librettist/lyricist by Amy R. Chartoff with music by W.A. Mozart (The Magic Flute and Marriage of Figaro).The story is that of the well-known tale of Beauty and the Beast. According to Chartoff, in this production, "A gentle, courageous girl goes to live in the palace of a hideous beast in order to help her father keep a promise. The Beast helps Beauty to learn that outward appearances are not as important as kindness and a mystical transformation happens."
Beautybeast’s music is borrowed from two of Mozart’s operas, Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) and Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute).
Based on the version by Jeanne-Marie La Prince de Beaumont.
