Presented by The Manassas Heritage Railway Festival is a family celebration of the rich railway history that Manassas has to offer. Manassas Junction was the site of both the 1st and 2nd Battles of Manassas during the Civil War and of the nation’s first military railroad. proudly sponsors 6 elaborate model railroad displays at the Harris Pavilion along with lots of fun rides for kids of all ages! Acrospring Circus Train Bounce & Slide Enchanted Forest Bounce Trackless Kids Train The talent of local kids along with professional entertainment will be featured the Kid's Stage, powered byBack by popular demand......the comedy antics of Michael Rosman! The VRE Excursion Train ride to Clifton and back will be available this year! Trains will leave from Manassas for round trip excursions to Clifton at 11 AM, 12 noon, 1 PM, 2 PM and 3 PM. EXCURSION TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW! Ticket cost is $6 per person (children under 2 years are free) and will be sold at the Visitor's Center at the Train Depot (accepting cash, check or Visa and Mastercard) and at the Whimsical Galerie in Old Town Manassas (accepting cash or check ONLY). For store location and hours, please click here. Tickets must be purchased in person (no will call, phone orders or online sales). Getting on or off the train in Clifton is not permitted. This year's Railway Festival will also feature a "living history" of the Civil War on the lawn of the Manassas Museum. Beginning Friday, June 4, living history exhibitions will begin setting up on the lawn of the Manassas Museum as a part of the larger annual Manassas Heritage Railway Festival. Living historians, authors, and both Union and Confederate re-enactors will be present in camps for public inspection. Infantry, Artillery and Cavalry drill demonstrations are being planned throughout the day. Period sutlers vending Civil War memorabilia and provisions will be on site, and period music will include groups such as Evergreen Shade, South Fork and the Chantleers. A special performance by the Mosby Players with Jim Wass and Company will round out the evening, with music and instruction for a 1861 Period Community Dance from 6 to 8 o’clock Saturday evening. The The Norfolk Southern Lawmen will bring their unique blend of railroad, country and bluegrass music to the main stage with three performances at noon, 1 and 2 pm. Founded by a group of railroad policemen who enjoyed pickin' and singin', the Norfolk Southern Lawmen today are among the nation's top corporate entertainers. Employed by Norfolk Southern, they are full-time professional musicians who log some 200 performances a year. They have appeared on national television, at the Grand Ole Opry, the Smithsonian Institution and at the Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Foundation in Meridian, Mississippi along with some of country's top stars including Willie Nelson, Tanya Tucker, Ricky Skaggs, Collin Raye, Billy Joe Royal and T. Graham Brown. Bull Run Grass will be performing on the Main Stage at 10am, and the Idle Time Band will play at 3pm. As always, plenty of vendors selling model train equipment, railroad books, Thomas the Train merchandise, and train photography will be on hand throughout the day.
